Trompe l'oeil.

Trompe l'oeil.
Have you ever looked at a building and thought "Wow, that's really pretty!", and then realised that it isn't in fact a building at all, but actually a painting on the side of a building?

This happens quite often in the South of France; in a lot of villages in the area there are massive walls that have been transformed into the most amazing paintings. Some so detailed, that you can be staring at it for a full 5 minutes before realising that it's not even real.
A couple of times, I've literally walked up to the building to try and get a closer look, and only realised that it was a painting when I was 2 meters away from it. They're very confusing and can really mess with your head, but they're so interesting at the same time.

Some of them are quite simple, they look just like the side of a very pretty building, but some of them are on a whole other level, with paintings of people leaning out of the windows to dry their washing, and paintings of cats sunbathing in the sun on the window ledge; to make matters worse, some of these paintings are on the side of a real building with real windows and doors, making it impossible to know what's what.

Every time I see one of these Trompe l'Oeil, I take a photo, they truly are breathtaking. It would be quite hard to narrow down the towns and villages in which you can find these beautiful paintings, as they are in a lot of different places. If you fancy going on a little adventure and searching for them yourself, you can rent a property HERE!
